Minor League Sports: A Quirky Experience
One of the things I appreciate about minor league sports is that post-game, I often find myself in a kind of whimsical trance.
A perfect example? Ronald McDonald belting out the national anthem at these games. The Charlotte Knights recently welcomed the fast-food mascot— he’s definitely more than just a face for burgers. It turns out his singing voice is, well, quite remarkable.
Now, I’ve never quite warmed to Ronald, but I can’t say I really dislike him either. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t strike me as the type to, you know, throw seltzer in my face or, worse, lure me into a creepy van. That’s a bonus.
Honestly, the only thing I worry about is that he just wants me to chow down on his cheeseburger. And, well, I might end up losing the whole afternoon to that thought.
For me, that’s enough to make him just fine.
Recently, a video went viral showcasing Ronald performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” flawlessly, which has stirred quite a conversation.
It’s heartwarming to see McDonaldland characters making a comeback, particularly in the realm of baseball.
Remember when Grimas led the Mets to consecutive victories with an impressive first pitch? They should really consider bringing him back! Now we see Ronald stepping up like a younger, enthusiastic Pavarotti. I can’t help but wonder if next we’ll see Hamburg singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” or Officer Big Mac riding around on a unicycle, doing his best impression of a circus performer.
At this rate, everything seems possible. Who knows? Mayor McCheese could be pacing through the front office as the new GM and Director of Baseball Operations any time now.
