Attorney General Pam Bondy announced that 630 individuals have been arrested and 86 illegal firearms confiscated in Washington, DC, just days after President Donald Trump launched his initiative aimed at bolstering safety in the city.
“We have now arrested 630 people and seized 86 illegal guns in DC,” Bondy shared in a recent update on X.
She mentioned that among these, there were 24 arrests made by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) and 10 guns “taken off the streets,” with 53 people arrested just on Wednesday.
“Our amazing @usmarshalshq assisted in recovering a missing child,” Bondy noted. “Our efforts to enhance safety in DC are ongoing.”
Her comments come alongside notable statistics highlighting a significant drop in crime rates in the capital since President Trump intervened with the police force. His recent measures include invoking a section of the District of Columbia Home Rules Act, which placed the DC Metropolitan Police Department under federal control while also mobilizing the National Guard.
“Violent gangs, ruthless criminals, and chaotic youths have overrun our capital. There is also the ongoing issue with drugs and homelessness,” she added.
In the past week, the city recorded no murders. Additionally, violent crimes decreased by 22%, carjackings plummeted by 83%, and robberies fell by 46%.
“President Trump’s administration is revitalizing DC and ensuring a safer America,” remarked Vice President JD Vance.
“We shouldn’t let violence dominate our cities. We can restore law and order, but there needs to be a strong political commitment to achieve that,” he emphasized.
This positive outcome has sparked criticism from some left-leaning figures, with doubts raised about Trump’s crime-fighting mission, including reactions from Minnesota’s Democratic leaders.
Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dismissed Trump’s actions, suggesting they serve merely as a distraction.
