Trump’s Focus Shifts to Chicago
President Donald Trump expressed his attention on Chicago, Illinois, during a statement on Friday.
Earlier in August, he had declared a criminal emergency in Washington, D.C., and just two weeks ago, he sent in the National Guard to handle the situation there. On Friday, Trump indicated that he sees Chicago as the next city in need of assistance.
“Chicago is in disarray. The mayor is ineffective, and it’s quite apparent. It’s not hard to see that. The residents are asking for help,” he remarked.
“I believe Chicago will be our next focus, followed by efforts in New York. We genuinely want to assist. You’ll notice many familiar faces in the news, including those related to me,” he added.
The president mentioned that if Congress does not extend the 30-day military authorization for D.C., he might consider declaring a national emergency to sustain his initiatives.
Since August 7, 719 arrests have reportedly been made by White House officials. Among these arrests, around 300 involved illegal immigrants linked to serious crimes like assault, rape, and drug trafficking. Additionally, five gang members were apprehended, including members of MS-13 in a recent operation.
Officials revealed that approximately 2,300 agents were involved in the operation that took place on Thursday night, drawing support from various agencies such as the FBI, Secret Service, and Homeland Security Investigations.
A reporter pressed Trump regarding any specific actions the administration might take in other cities. Trump responded, “When the time is right, we will stabilize Chicago. Just like D.C. was a major issue, we turned it into something commendable. Chicago has its own beauty that we don’t want to lose.”
