Bengals Induction Ceremony Raises Eyebrows

It seems like the Bengals can’t quite escape their usual ways.

Former Cincinnati quarterback Boomer Esiason spoke out recently about what he termed a puzzling invitation from the team. Reportedly, they are asking Ring of Honor members to not only attend their induction ceremony in October but also to make extra trips for additional tickets during the event. Really, I don’t get it.

On WFAN’s “Boomer and Gio” show, Esiason expressed his confusion, saying, “I don’t know how to take this invitation… Tell me what this invitation is, and we can discuss it.” He went on to read the email he received from the Bengals, clearly perplexed.

According to the message, the Bengals are inviting Ring of Honor members to celebrate Dave Raffam and Lemar Parrish during the induction weekend in October, coinciding with the Bengals’ game against the New York Jets on October 26. Esiason continued sharing details from the email, noting, “For more information, please RSVP by Friday, August 22. You and your guests will have the chance to purchase more tickets if needed.”

Oddly enough, if you’re heading to Cincinnati for the weekend, the team has reserved a block of discounted rooms at a local hotel, which feels… well, a bit off given the circumstances.

As one of the eight living members of the Bengals Ring of Honor, Esiason didn’t hide his discontent. He seemed genuinely taken aback.

During the discussion, he quipped, “If I decline this invitation, do you think people will see me as an elitist?” His co-host, Greg Giannotti, pointed out that it’s a generic email sent to all those involved. “You know how many people are in the Ring of Honor now? Eight?”

Feeling somewhat down about the situation, Esiason added, “I’m not trying to stir the pot, but it’s a shame.” On another note, the Bengals are currently also dealing with a contract dispute involving All-Pro Pass Rusher Trey Hendrickson, alongside ongoing negotiations with star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
