Squirrel Interrupts Yankees Game in the Bronx

A squirrel made an unexpected appearance during a Yankees game against the Red Sox on Friday. Midway through the fourth inning, the furry little creature dashed across the field, leading to a brief pause in the action.

The Yankees’ broadcast team first spotted the squirrel when Red Sox outfielder Jostinu Kson Garcia stepped up to bat. “Wow, he ran right across Garcia’s feet,” exclaimed Yankees announcer Michael Kay. “He’s checking out the area near [Max] Fried’s mound.”

Fried, the Yankees’ starting pitcher for the game, wasn’t exactly thrilled with the uninvited guest making its way around the mound while he was trying to focus on Garcia. After a moment, the squirrel wandered off towards the infield dirt before eventually leaving the diamond entirely.

“I remember the Yankees didn’t have the best luck with squirrels in the past—they called one ‘Scooter’ or something,” Kay added, reminiscing about past encounters with these cheeky critters.

Interestingly, squirrels have made a habit of showing up at Yankee Stadium over the years. Kay mentioned one memorable incident where a squirrel was seen on the right field foul pole during the 2007 season.

“Look at the fans’ faces,” Kay remarked as the squirrel made its grand exit.

Broadcast partner Paul O’Neill chimed in, noting, “That squirrel definitely sticks a landing far better than we do.” It was a lighthearted moment that added some unexpected fun to the game.

Just two seasons ago, another squirrel made waves at Yankee Stadium during a match against the Orioles. Seems like these little intruders have their own special place in baseball history.
