DHS Secretary Criticizes Release of Illegal Immigrant

Secretary of Homeland Security Christy Noem has spoken out against the decision to release Kilmer Armando Abrego Garcia, who Democrats are referring to as a “Marylander,” from federal custody.

In a recent press release, Noem took aim at what she labeled as “activist liberal judges” for their efforts to impede U.S. law enforcement from addressing significant criminal activities and removing undocumented individuals from the country. She accused the judge responsible for Abrego Garcia’s release of disregarding American safety.

“Activist liberal judges have tried to sabotage our law enforcement at every turn, allowing the worst criminals and undocumented individuals to remain,” Noem stated. “Today marks a new low, as this Maryland judge has mandated the release of an illegal alien who has connections to the MS-13 gang, as well as human traffickers, serial domestic abusers, and child predators.”

Noem further emphasized, “By allowing this dangerous individual to walk freely on U.S. streets, the judge is failing to prioritize the safety of Americans.”

Abrego Garcia’s release followed a ruling by U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes, who ordered his release from a prison in Tennessee. According to reports from NBC News, he was previously incarcerated in a facility in El Salvador.

Upon his release, Abrego Garcia must adhere to specific conditions and is required to check in with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials at their Baltimore Field office.

Justice Barbara Holmes from the Central District of Tennessee ordered his release from a Nashville-area prison, where he had been held since June after his incarceration in El Salvador.

His lawyer, Sean Hecker, mentioned that Abrego was en route to reunite with family in Maryland. He stated, “He was illegally arrested, deported, and imprisoned due to the government’s misguided efforts against individuals who opposed the administration’s ongoing challenges to the rule of law.”

Reports indicate that Abrego Garcia has been released, as noted by Breitbart News.

Defending Abrego Garcia, Democrats, including Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), traveled to El Salvador to meet him following accusations of gang affiliation and involvement in human smuggling, claims stemming from his deportation during the Trump administration.

It was also reported that Abrego Garcia faced accusations related to domestic violence against his wife, casting doubt on his alleged ties to the MS-13 gang.

DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin mentioned that Abrego Garcia was apprehended while in possession of cash and drug paraphernalia.
