Alan Hamel and Joanne Cassidy open up about their relationship following Suzanne Somers' passing

Alan Hamel Steps into New Romance after Suzanne Somers’ Passing

Alan Hamel is navigating a new chapter in his life following the death of his wife, Suzanne Somers. Recently, he confirmed a budding relationship with actress Joanna Cassidy, known for her role in “Blade Runner.” The two originally crossed paths many years ago when Cassidy appeared on Hamel’s show. This past couple of months saw the two reconnect.

“We felt a real bond,” Hamel, 89, shared. “I mean, we spent quite a bit of time together, which was wonderful. I’m a decade older than Joanna, and, interestingly, she’s always been attracted to older men.” Their relationship appears to have blossomed into something special.

Suzanne Summers, Hamel’s late wife, passed away in 2023 at the age of 76 after a long battle with breast cancer. The couple was married for 55 years, a remarkable stretch filled with cherished moments. Reflecting on his past, Hamel mentioned how he and Summers used to enjoy regular date nights, something that feels foreign now.

“Dating again is… well, it’s strange,” he admitted. “Suzanne and I would go out once, sometimes twice a week. We’d dress up, dine at nice places, savor a good bottle of wine. It was routine for us.” He’s trying to recreate some of that joy, albeit differently now.

To ease into the dating world, he decided to invite a few female friends along for group outings. “I thought it would feel less pressured. Just a trio of us hanging out,” he said. It was during this period, while feeling a bit lonely, that he met up with Cassidy. Their first date, according to her, was almost magical. “It was very natural,” she said. “I realized I felt at home; I think we spent three days together!”

Hamel shared that he promised Suzanne he’d live his life fully after she was gone. “She said, ‘I want you to enjoy life,’ and I assured her I would,” he recounted fondly. His family, including three children and six grandchildren, have been a strong support system during these tough times. They made it a point to check in consistently after Summers passed away.

Interestingly, Hamel’s approach to dating has been unconventional. “I’ve never used a dating site; they seem precarious,” he noted, pointing out how people often misrepresent themselves. In comparison, dating Cassidy has been refreshing, as she remains active and adventurous, doing things he typically wouldn’t. “She’s into these aerial yoga classes while I’m more of the laid-back type,” he chuckled.

Amidst all this, Hamel aims to keep Suzanne’s legacy alive. He and their family manage her wellness brand and frequently communicate her wisdom through social media. They even have plans for an interactive feature called Suzanne AI for her fan base.

With both Hamel and Cassidy seemingly enamored, when asked about their feelings, they exchanged shy glances but smiled warmly. Hamel emphasized the essence of love in various forms, saying, “I value all kinds of love. It really matters.” Cassidy also added, “Love is when you can truly listen to someone and put others first.” She encouraged that it’s never too late to seek romance, asserting, “There are so many people out there.” Ultimately, both are keeping an open heart as they explore this new connection.
