At least he’s not pretending to be the Strongman leader.
Zohran Mamdani, a prominent candidate for mayor, had a bit of trouble at the annual men’s day event in Brooklyn on Saturday. He attempted to impress the crowd by trying to bench press but struggled—he was not able to lift a bar that was loaded with what was reported to be 135 pounds without assistance.
The image captures the 33-year-old Socialist as he attempted the lift, needing help from two others just to get the bar off the rack.
After conceding defeat, Mamdani stood up and praised the spotters from an organization described as “500 men make a difference.”
During the open street event along Eastern Parkway, he posed for countless selfies while passing the Brooklyn Museum.
Even though he faced a challenge with the bench press, he demonstrated some talent when it came to soccer—Uganda’s national sport. In a video, he kicked a soccer ball skillfully towards an inflatable target after removing his designer boots.
Mamdani gave the soccer ball a solid kick at an inflatable dart board set up by organizers, and the crowd seemed quite entertained.
He also made his way over to where DJs were playing and engaged with many Brooklyn residents.
“It’s truly a pleasure to be here, and I want to thank the organizers for highlighting what makes our community special,” Mamdani remarked simply. He added, “I’m looking forward to being your next mayor next year.”
Men’s Day is an annual event that features open-air gyms, musical performances, and car shows, wrapping up summer celebrations.
