Roger Federer joins the ranks of seven billionaire athletes — who are the others in this elite group?

New estimates from Forbes reveal that Roger Federer has officially joined the ranks of billionaire athletes, securing the seventh spot in history.

Having retired in 2022, the Swiss tennis legend boasts a net worth of approximately $1.1 billion. Much of this fortune stems from successful investments in Swiss footwear and apparel businesses.

Throughout his illustrious career, Federer has amassed significant wealth through sponsorships and various business ventures. Interestingly, despite earning less in prize money compared to rivals like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, he has maintained his position as the highest-paid player in tennis for the past 16 years.

In 2020, Federer topped the global athlete income list, earning $106.3 million before taxes.

Notably, he becomes the second tennis player to reach billionaire status, following Romania’s former French Open Doubles champion, who has also ventured into investing.

This exclusive list also includes sports icons like Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, and Junior Bridgeman.

Additionally, Forbes has named Federer the highest-paid active tennis player for the second consecutive year, with earnings reaching $48.3 million over the past year.

Jannik Sinner, currently ranked No. 1 in the world, closely follows with earnings of $47.3 million, significantly increasing his income from previous years, which includes $20 million from prize money alone.

Coco Gauff ranks third with $37.2 million, establishing herself as the top female athlete globally in the last year.

This marks the first time since 2010 that all three of the top earners—Gauff, Alcaraz, and Sinner—are under the age of 30.

Overall, the top 10 highest-paid tennis players have seen a 16% increase in earnings compared to last year, although they remain below the record $343 million achieved in 2020.
