Text Messages Reveal Emotional Turmoil Before Tragedy

Recently uncovered text messages between Shanann Watts and a friend disclose the severe emotional strain Shanann faced from her husband, Chris Watts, in the critical days leading up to her death. The pregnant mother expressed her distress shortly after the cancellation of their gender reveal party for their upcoming child.

In one of her messages, Shanann shared, “My eyes are burning from crying so much.” Tragically, she was murdered by Chris on August 13, 2018.

Documents obtained detail her struggles within the troubled marriage. “We were so close that when we broke up, I thought, ‘We love each other!’ He remarked he had a lot of time to ponder,” she recounted.

“This baby in my belly deserves his utmost love. Either way,” she added, reflecting on her hopes despite the crumbling relationship.

Other texts indicate that Chris had expressed significant apprehension regarding the arrival of their third child. Shanann wrote to her friend, revealing, “Last night, Chris told me he was scared to death of having a third baby; he was happy with just Bella and Celeste and didn’t want any more children.” It’s heartbreaking to think about the weight of those conversations.

During this time, Shanann suspected Chris was involved in an affair, voicing concern, “I don’t think he’s up for it, but all I can think about is another girl.”

This troubling period included Shanann planning a gender reveal party that she was excited about, spending around $860 on decorations, cakes, and flowers. However, the event set for August 19 was cancelled on August 8 after Chris admitted he didn’t want a third child and Shanann asked for a divorce.

Just days later, Chris committed the unthinkable, taking the lives of Shanann and their two daughters.

After being imprisoned in Wisconsin, Chris has claimed to have transformed into a “new man,” expressing feelings of forgiveness from God and even engaging with several women while incarcerated. “I know that God doesn’t see me as a sinner who killed my family. He sees me as a child of God. The hardest thing I had to do was forgive myself,” he shared in his writings.
