Browns coach rejects accusations of sabotage

Cleveland Browns Coach Addresses Quarterback Performance Issues

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski recently suggested that his coaching choices may have impacted quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ performance during the last game of the season. Sanders was sacked five times, completing just 6 of 14 passes for 6 yards. Meanwhile, Dillon Gabriel threw for 129 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Huntley guided the Browns on the final drive, culminating in a game-winning field goal.

Critics, including Skip Bayless, pointed fingers at Stefanski’s strategy, questioning the fairness of the circumstances surrounding Sanders, particularly due to the presence of third- and fourth-string players. Bayless stated that the situation was, in his words, “stacked against” Sanders, implying the Browns “stolen” his performance.

Stefanski, however, brushed off these accusations on Sunday. He mentioned, “I don’t really concern myself with external noise, but I’m committed to developing all our rookies,” highlighting a focus on player improvement. He added, “That’s what matters to me.”

Stefanski made the decision to seat Sanders in the closing minutes of the Browns’ 19-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams, choosing to go with Huntley instead. He commended Gabriel for his progress since the early days of the preseason, noting, “He did a remarkable job. There’s still a lot for our rookies to refine, but we’ll keep working on it.”

On a lighter note, he remarked on the importance of the work done in spring, emphasizing that it was foundational for Gabriel’s development and that they’d continue building upon that momentum.

As the quarterback situation evolves, the Browns face critical decisions, especially with the cut-down deadline looming. The team’s coaching staff is clearly focused on both player advancement and aligning on strategic decisions for the upcoming season.
