Sophie Turner has no regrets about leaving the U.S. two years ago.
Now 29, she moved back to London in 2023 after her four-year marriage to Joe Jonas, a well-known singer.
The “Game of Thrones” actress shared that she couldn’t fully embrace life back in England without longing for it before. “I’m just here, and I don’t want to move again,” she expressed.
She reflected on how living in the U.S. made her take for granted the importance of friends and family for her well-being. “You really don’t appreciate how essential they are until you’re far away,” she noted. “I’ve come back with a lot of gratitude for them.”
Turner also mentioned how becoming a mother to her daughters, Willa, 5, and Delphine, 3, has positively influenced her career. “Being a mother has changed me in ways I can’t fully describe,” she said. “I can bring so much of that experience into my work now.”
Her divorce from Jonas was finalized in September, about a year after they separated. They reached a settlement through amicable negotiations regarding their assets and the custody of their two daughters.
In court, Judge Gina Beobides stated that their marriage was “irreparably broken,” agreeing that their parenting plan served the family’s best interests. This was confirmed by a Miami-Dade County Judge in September.
Turner and Jonas first crossed paths in 2016 when he reached out through Instagram. They became engaged in 2017 and married in 2019, with a spontaneous wedding in Vegas.
Jonas filed for divorce in a Florida court in September 2023, according to previous reports.
The estranged couple later released a joint statement saying, “After four great years of marriage, we have mutually decided to end the marriage amicably. There are many speculative stories about why, but this is a joint decision, and we hope everyone respects our privacy and that of our children.”
Post-announcement, Turner initiated legal action against Jonas in New York over the custody arrangements for their daughters. She claimed to have learned of the divorce through media reports.
Their marriage ended “very suddenly,” particularly after a tense conversation on the singer’s 34th birthday.
Turner has accused Jonas of “illegal retention” of their daughter for several days, claiming his attorney acknowledged that he wouldn’t agree to release their daughter’s passport or consent for her to return to the U.K.
The actress described feeling portrayed negatively in tabloids, while Jonas was often depicted as a devoted father. She remarked, “Those were the worst days of my life,” in an interview with Vogue.
Turner remembered being on set, tied up with a contract, unable to reach her children who were in America. “I couldn’t get to them because I had work to finish on ‘Joan.’ All these articles were just scrutinizing every aspect of my role as a mother,” she said.
