Ukrainians celebrate Trump envoy Keith Kellogg as 'St. Kellogg'

General Kellogg’s Visit to Ukraine

General Keith Kellogg, the US envoy to Ukraine, received a warm welcome in Kiev, with locals chanting “St. Kellogg!” During his weekend visit, the Kremlin notably refrained from attacking the city, thanks to his presence which provided a rare moment of peace.

The special presidential envoy reportedly noted significant strides made by US officials in aligning with President Trump’s objectives to conclude the war in Ukraine. His popularity was such that the US embassy felt the need to enhance security to protect his growing fan base during the visit, as sources indicated.

Throughout Kellogg’s three-day stay, Kiev’s air raid sirens remained mostly silent. This was a stark contrast to the ongoing assaults elsewhere in Ukraine, showcasing a temporary withdrawal by Russian forces under the command of Vladimir Putin.

Ukrainians embraced the atmosphere, even creating memes that depicted Kellogg as a saintly figure safeguarding the city. Some of these memes humorously connected his name to the Ukrainian word for “cat,” picturing a cat in clerical attire watching over Kiev.

This marked Kellogg’s third trip to the capital, where he met with top officials to strategize about the next steps toward peace.

He played a pivotal role in persuading Ukraine to consider Trump’s peace proposals, including a recent suggestion for a meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. While Ukraine seems open to this approach, Russia’s response remains reluctant.

Zelensky spoke about their discussions with Kellogg, indicating a focus on how they could influence Russia to genuinely engage in negotiations to bring an end to the conflict.

“Everything must remain on the agenda, including tariffs,” Zelensky said. “We are prepared to take on leadership… We now need similar commitments from Moscow.”

A US official noted that Kellogg was met with enthusiasm throughout his interactions with both Ukrainian citizens and military personnel.

“International diplomacy can often revolve around individual personalities,” the official remarked. “In his role, Kellogg stands out due to his long-time loyalty to Trump, which allows him to maintain credibility among Ukrainian and European leaders while also being trusted by soldiers on the ground.”

After years of supporting Trump, Kellogg was appointed as a special envoy in January to manage diplomatic efforts regarding the Ukraine crisis. Although initially tasked with direct diplomacy with both parties, the responsibilities eventually split with another envoy handling Kremlin communications.

Despite being low-profile about his successes, Kellogg’s efforts have included facilitating Ukraine’s willingness to consider an unconditional ceasefire, although the stance towards Russia remains complicated. The Ukrainian government has consistently rejected similar proposals that Trump previously conveyed to Putin during discussions.

On Sunday, Zelensky honored Kellogg with a merit order for his contributions toward achieving peace at a ceremony coinciding with Ukraine’s Independence Day.

Kellogg also participated in a national prayer breakfast alongside other supporters of Trump. He humbly declined to elaborate on his accomplishments but did share a statement reflecting on the importance of peace.

“As President Trump has often said, the violence needs to stop,” Kellogg stated. “If we can assist the president in making that happen, we will.”

He further emphasized the responsibilities of adults to protect children worldwide, expressing, “We owe them a chance to grow up safe and innocent.”

Kellogg concluded by quoting from scripture, affirming the commitment to listen and act on behalf of the suffering.

Upon leaving Kiev, Ukrainian leaders expressed their gratitude to both Kellogg and Trump for the visit, with remarks highlighting the importance of continued support from the United States.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Dennis Schmichal reiterated thanks for strong US backing and discussed future agreements on drone production and sales.
