Exciting Archaeological Discovery in the Czech Republic
Archaeologists in the Czech Republic have uncovered a significant number of gold coins from ancient Celtic settlements, shedding light on long-lost civilizations. This remarkable find was showcased by the East Bohemia Museum in Hradec Králové, which reported it in July. The excavation sites align with future highway development routes.
The area dates back to the Latten era, with evidence suggesting that it flourished in the second century BC. This settlement served as a major center for trade and production, connecting Central Europe with distant parts of the ancient world.
Interestingly, the findings include gold and silver coins, amber artifacts, and evidence of high-quality ceramic production. Archaeologists discovered various metal objects, ceramic fragments, and remains of housing, production sites, and even potential sanctuaries.
This could be among the largest collections of artifacts found in the Czech Republic.
Researchers collected over 22,000 bags of artifacts, marking it as one of the nation’s most significant archaeological endeavors. The museum emphasized the exceptional nature of this site, labeling it “completely remarkable.”
The assortment of artifacts includes everyday items and exceptionally valuable gems, pointing to the richness of life in that era. The site is noted for being unprecedented in both scale and characteristics within the country.
Although archaeologists aren’t entirely certain about the total number of artifacts present, they noted that the top layer of soil appeared to contain more discoveries than the lower, more preserved structures.
According to researchers, the significance of this site rivals that of other well-known archaeological sites in the Central Danube region and southern Germany.
