DNC Summer Meeting Highlights
The Democrats kicked off their summer meeting yesterday, and it seemed like a mix of excitement and chaos, something Republicans might find amusing.
When I appeared on Fox News Monday morning, I remember how Democrats unveiled their plans for the 2024 Democratic National Committee meeting in Minneapolis. I mentioned to host Todd Piro that if this meeting parallels what we saw in 2024, things might not be looking up for them. It began with land approvals again. There’s this ongoing struggle within the Democratic Party, which tends to lean heavily towards progressive ideals, sometimes estranging itself from mainstream voters.
Indeed, the meeting commenced with another round of land approvals. A progressive female “pastor,” who openly shares her pronouns, spoke about the historical injustices faced by Indigenous peoples while wearing what she referred to as a pride scarf.
As this summer meeting unfolds, it’s crucial for the Democrats. After the setbacks in 2024, they’ve been fragmented regarding their direction and leadership. And it doesn’t help that their funding is in dire straits. The GOP is outpacing them in party registrations and is becoming increasingly active in the national gerrymandering issues that could potentially spell trouble for the Democrats.
It feels like the Democrats are aiming to cater to a progressive base that is, perhaps somewhat disconnected from broader American sentiment. Here are a few peculiar moments from Monday’s gathering:
- A presentation from the Vera Institute, a think tank, where a speaker declared that “strict on crime” rhetoric is synonymous with authoritarianism and dismissed concerns about crimes like carjacking as unimportant to many Americans.
- Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison spoke out against the Trump administration’s ban on gender-related procedures for minors.
- Mayor Barbara Lee from Oakland, California, highlighted her city’s decision to refrain from cooperating with ICE.
- Governor Tim Waltz from Minnesota expressed a rather colorful hope that he wouldn’t have to wake up to negative news about President Trump if Vice President Kamala Harris were to win.
- Senator Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota made a controversial comment blending illegal immigration with legal immigration, claiming that immigrants are integral to America.
- DNC Chair Ken Martin labeled the Trump administration as “fascist,” which might raise a few eyebrows.
It’s usually wise to avoid premature celebrations, but perhaps Vice President JD Vance should take his victories with a grain of salt for now.
Other Observations
Trump’s tackling of crime issues seems to have ramped up lately, which is, I think, something he’s been needing since his term began.
Trump advocates for the elimination of “cashless bail” in DC.

This unfolding story is becoming increasingly intriguing, as Geoff Ingersoll elaborates on its latest developments.
Ingersoll comments on the “Maryland Man” saga, noting it takes a hilariously unexpected turn.

Republicans continue to shy away from playing hardball in pushing through Trump’s nominee in the Senate. One has to wonder why they’ve let the president take a step back. Chuck Grassley has voiced support for a number of candidates and is backing Trump as well.
