Cause of Death Released for Music Executive and Husband
The official cause of death for Robin Kay, a music executive known for her work on “American Idol,” and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, has been made public. Both, aged 70, died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.
Fox News Digital has classified the manner of death as a murder-suicide involving the couple. However, no autopsy reports have been issued yet.
DeLuca was shot at around 4:45 PM on July 10, just seconds before Kay was also shot, according to reports. If I recall correctly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.
Timeline of the Incident
It’s reported that Kay and DeLuca were found at home just a few days after police performed welfare checks at the request of friends, who hadn’t heard from the couple. When officers were finally allowed in, they discovered signs of a struggle. It turns out that the couple had almost crossed paths with the police before the tragic events unfolded. They had left their home about 25 minutes earlier due to a neighbor’s alert about police checking the area.
Once back at their residence, another 911 call was made from inside their home. The caller, identifiable as the suspect, was reportedly heard stating, “Someone broke into my office” and pleading not to be shot.
Investigation Details
Detectives noted that GPS information placed that caller in Kay and DeLuca’s home. They believe that suspects might have taken advantage of an unsecured door to enter the residence. LAPD Lieutenant Guy Golan mentioned that the assailant likely anticipated having about 30 minutes before the couple returned, resulting in a violent confrontation that ended with their deaths.
Raymond Boudarian, just 22 years old, has been charged with the double homicide and was arrested on July 15. He hasn’t yet entered a plea, as a court hearing regarding his mental fitness is scheduled for September 3.
Community Concerns
In the wake of this tragic event, residents in Encino gathered for a meeting on July 21 to address rising crime in the area. Heather Michaels of the Encino Neighborhood Council expressed concerns that this incident might have been preventable. Community sentiment reflects a heightened sense of fear and apprehension, especially among seniors.
Interestingly, just the night before the shooting, Kay and DeLuca had attended a neighborhood safety meeting. According to Colonel Mike Brando, they had a chance to interact during that gathering, which makes the timing of the tragedy all the more unsettling.
During the following meeting after the couple’s passing, police committed to stepping up patrols in the Encino area. Community members are understandably anxious, prompting discussions about safety measures.
