Teen Charged After Viral Weapon Incident in Dundee
A teenage girl has been charged for wielding a weapon, following the release of a viral video online.
Reports indicate that police responded to an incident in the Rochee area of Dundee, Scotland, on Saturday night. Officers were called after a young girl was spotted with a bladed weapon, and what’s more, the incident was captured in a video that has garnered over 20 million views since the weekend.
Authorities confirmed they received a report about a girl with a weapon around 7:40 PM on Saturday. An officer was dispatched, resulting in the charge of a 14-year-old girl connected to the situation, who will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
The girl allegedly brandished the knife after being confronted by the man recording the video, who notably had no Scottish accent. The background of the video hinted at a bus stop location.
This video, dated August 24, was reportedly linked to events that unfolded the following day.
In the clip, one can hear a girl saying, “Don’t touch us,” as another appears to be holding a large knife, while they film and demand privacy.
As further posts emerged, some accounts uploaded the video with comments suggesting, “The story continues to worsen.”
Additional details surfaced, claiming the girl’s 12-year-old sister mentioned being approached by a man while carrying her weapon. However, a different user on social media maintained that the girl was embroiled in a dispute with another girl and shared an article from the Scottish Sun, although that piece didn’t elaborate on the incident.
When asked for a statement, a spokesperson from Police Scotland confirmed that no adults have been arrested or charged regarding this matter.
Robin Alderslow, a content creator in Scotland, reflected on the situation, noting that he has seen instances of weapons being displayed in similar contexts, expressing concern over safety.
Another commentator, journalist Lewis Brackpool, remarked on the implications of a young girl feeling the need to carry a knife in public, suggesting it indicates a troubling trend. He questioned when society would acknowledge failures linked to multiculturalism.
The police were approached for clarification, specifically regarding whether the young girl was engaged in a conflict with another teenager or had encountered an adult with the weapon.
