Violent Shootings in the Bronx Leave Four Dead
Police have reported that four men were shot and killed in a series of violent incidents.
The chaos began around 8:10 a.m. when a 32-year-old man was shot behind an apartment building on Anthony Avenue, close to Mount Hope Place. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The reasons behind this shooting remain unclear.
NYPD surveillance footage shows a suspect in the lobby of the apartment building hours later, with a hood pulled over his head before he disappears from the camera’s view.
Authorities describe him as approximately 50 years old, with a dark complexion and a medium build. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and blue sneakers.
The violence escalated again around 1:10 p.m. outside a public housing complex on Claus Avenue near Seward Avenue, part of Neecha’s Western Bag Development. Here, a 34-year-old man was shot in the chest and rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Two male suspects fled on foot, heading north on Close Avenue. According to police sources, they were last seen in black or gray hoodies, black pants, and black Jordanian sneakers.
One of the suspects was noted to be wearing a gray hoodie, black pants, and carrying a gray and red backpack.
While the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, sources noted that the victim had a significant criminal history, with nearly 40 arrests to his name.
Later, in another incident on Bryant Street, a 31-year-old man was shot in the ankle. He was hospitalized at St. Barnabas with life-threatening injuries.
Two male attackers fled the scene after the shooting, with one reportedly wearing black clothing.
Around 3:30 p.m., another shooting occurred where a 26-year-old man was shot multiple times in his feet at Adams Place near 182nd Street East in Belmont. He was also taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
Witnesses described the suspect involved in this shooting as wearing a green hoodie and gray sweatpants, but he managed to escape.
The motivations behind these violent acts remain under scrutiny.
The Bronx has seen a troubling trend of gun violence, especially over recent weekends. Just last Saturday, a shooting resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man and injuries to another, including a 17-year-old girl who was an innocent bystander.
In that incident, two young men and two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, face murder charges.
Interestingly, recent NYPD statistics indicate that despite these violent outbursts, murder and shooting rates in the Bronx have been declining. As of Sunday, the borough reported 67 murders, down about 15% from 79 at the same point in 2024.
This year has seen 178 shootings resulting in 215 casualties, contrasted with 220 incidents and 281 victims during the same timeframe last year.
