Chicago Bears Rookie Cornerback Out for Season

The Chicago Bears announced on Tuesday that rookie cornerback Zah Frazier will be sidelined for the entire season due to “personal” reasons, preventing him from partaking in the team’s offseason activities.

Frazier, selected as the Bears’ fifth pick from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), had shown promise during rookie minicamp, although the general manager noted that his abilities “were evident before he arrived.” He had been on the non-football injury list, which was described as a “complex deal.”

“There was a situation that unfolded, one I personally categorize as somewhat complicated,” general manager Poles stated to reporters. “When we looked into it and sought ways to assist him, it seemed to stem from issues prior to his arrival here.” He went on to mention Frazier would still be present for meetings and working out in the weight room.

It’s unfortunate to see such potential go untapped, particularly since Frazier had showcased incredible speed with a 4.36-second 40-yard dash and stands tall at about 6’3″. In his last college season, he set school records with six interceptions, despite having previous struggles with staying healthy on the field.

He was also recognized as a first-team All-AAC selection and had spent two seasons at a community college in Kansas before transferring to UTSA.
