Gov. Walz's criticism of Trump's attempts to improve safety in Democrat-led cities has not aged well.

On Wednesday, two children, ages 8 and 10, were tragically killed, and two others were severely injured during a shooting at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis. Out of 17 total injuries, 14 were children. The police reported that the shooter had barricaded the church doors and started firing through the windows.

The assailant, whose identity remains unknown, was armed with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, and ultimately took his own life behind the church.

The day prior, another incident occurred near Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, claiming seven lives. A witness described the horrific scene as a “Blood Shower.”

These recent acts of violence have heightened concerns in a city already burdened by crime. Although murders have decreased this year, assault rates remain significantly above the averages of previous years. Minneapolis ranks high on the crime index, with 100 being the safest score.

In response to these tragedies, Governor Tim Walz criticized the Trump administration’s approach to addressing crime in cities led by Democrats. He suggested that such efforts have not aged well in light of these ongoing issues with violent crime.

During a speech at the Democratic National Committee meeting in Minneapolis, Walz characterized the Trump administration’s crime-fighting initiatives as “fascist” and unconstitutional. He asserted that this kind of cruelty must come to an end.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed his views, stating that if the president tried to replicate the crime reduction tactics used in Washington, D.C., it would be an overt violation of local governance. Frey committed to taking immediate actions for relief.

While Democrats continue to resist federal interventions, it’s interesting to note that Trump’s anti-crime strategy has reportedly been effective in D.C., with no murders recorded following increased federal presence there.
