Police responded to a significant shooting incident at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday, resulting in the tragic deaths of two children and injuries to 17 others.
The suspected shooter, identified in a group of Minneapolis Catholic School students during Morning Mass, is reported to be either Robert or Robin Westman, according to law enforcement sources. There seem to be variations in the name used.
Court documents reflect that a teenager named Robert Westman legally changed his name to Robin in 2019. The details from court filings indicate that Robin M. Westman was previously known as Robert Paul Westman, as noted by her mother, who expressed a desire for her child’s name to align with her identified gender.
Videos uploaded by someone using the name Robin Westman, which displayed handwritten notes, weapons, and related commentary, have since been removed from YouTube. The authenticity of these clips has not been verified by officials.
The attack unfolded early Wednesday morning at Announcement Catholic School. Police have not released the names of the victims but confirmed that two children were fatally shot. Following the rampage, it was reported that the shooter took his own life.
Witness accounts describe the perpetrator as a man dressed in black and armed with a black rifle. Currently, it is unclear what connection the suspect had with the school or if he was affiliated with any students or staff at the time.
As for the casualties, six injured children are being treated at a local Minnesota hospital, which is withholding further details out of respect for the victims and their families. In total, among the 17 injured individuals, 14 are children, with two reported to be in critical condition.
This shooting has drawn attention from prominent figures, including President Donald Trump, who stated that the FBI has opened an investigation into the event.
The Minneapolis Police Department posted a community message asserting, “there is no active threat to the community at this time” while confirming the incident.
As of now, this is a developing story, and updates are expected as more information becomes available.
