Orlando Bloom Opens Up About His Weight Loss Experience

Orlando Bloom has been open regarding the “paranoia” he experienced after shedding 52 pounds for his role in the upcoming boxing film, *The Cut*.

In the film, where he plays a retired boxer making a comeback, he details how his diet primarily consisted of just tuna and cucumbers. Directed by Shaun Ellis, Bloom shared his experience on Wednesday’s episode of “This Morning.”

“I felt totally drained,” he remarked, noting a significant lack of energy and mental clarity.

“I was in a state where I felt mentally and physically off. I was not the best version of myself around others,” he admitted.

Bloom, 48, revealed that his weight loss journey had a darker side, causing him to suffer from “intrusive thoughts.” This change in diet was guided by a nutritionist known for working with Christian Bale, who reduced his meals from three to two per day.

“Suddenly, I had so many foods stripped away from me, and when they took away my protein powder, I panicked,” he confessed, reflecting on weeks of eating nothing but tuna and cucumbers.

“I was just physically worn out,” he added. “It was a struggle, both mentally and physically. I could be a difficult person to be around at that time.”

Bloom explained that his nutritionist frequently monitored his blood levels. “We’re meant to prioritize eating, sleeping, and self-care,” he stressed. “It really underscores how far someone might go for a second chance. I think many can relate to that.”

The *Lord of the Rings* actor noted that while athletes often lose weight in manageable ways, there are those—like himself—who take it to extremes.

He later mentioned, “On set, I found myself lying down between takes. I’d get up to do push-ups…it looked a bit exaggerated.” Despite the results, he emphasized that “no one in my household would endorse this kind of extreme diet.”

In the upcoming film set to hit theaters on September 5th, Bloom portrays a retired fighter fixated on making a comeback. He later discussed how he needed to film at his lightest weight before later bulking up.

At the Toronto International Film Festival earlier in September, he noted that his ex-fiancée, Katy Perry, was quite “shocked” by his drastic transformation, which followed their split after nine years together.
