Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway's crown princess, will go to trial for rape allegations.

Norwegian Crown Prince Mette Maritt’s son is set to go on trial in early 2026 after a lengthy investigation, following his indictment last week.

Marius Borg Høiby, the oldest son of Mette Maritt and born before her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, faces multiple charges, including rape and domestic violence.

The 28-year-old, who has no royal titles or formal responsibilities, could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. He has denied the more serious accusations.

Defense attorney Ellen Hollagher Anden confirmed to Norwegian newspaper VG that the trial is slated to start on February 3, 2026.

Local outlet Nettavisen reports that the proceedings are expected to continue until March 14, 2026.

Høiby is dealing with charges related to 32 separate incidents allegedly occurring between 2018 and 2024.

The charges include four counts of rape, domestic violence, threats, secretly recording women without consent, and other less serious offenses, such as traffic violations.

After the allegations were made public, defense attorney Petal Secrek stated that Høiby “denies all charges of sexual abuse and most allegations of violence.”

While free until the trial, Høiby indicated, “I will provide a detailed explanation of my side of the story in court,” his lawyer mentioned.

It’s noteworthy that the trial’s timing aligns with a period of increased royal visibility, especially since 88-year-old Harald V has stepped back from many duties, allowing more responsibilities to shift to his son, Prince Haakon, who is also Høiby’s stepfather.

Until recently, Høiby resided with his mother and her children, including his two half-brothers, Sverre Magnus, aged 21 and 19.

His defense attorney noted that he currently lives in a nearby residence.

Though raised alongside his half-brother, Høiby does not carry out any official royal functions.

Once known as “Little Marius,” Høiby enjoyed privileges similar to those of his half-brother. He’s openly acknowledged struggles with cocaine addiction in the past, while his biological father, Morten Borg, has a history of drug and violent crime.
