Woman Charged for Allegedly Threatening to Kill GOP Senator

Threat Against Senator Blackburn

Authorities have charged a 22-year-old woman with making threats against Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn from Tennessee. The woman, Penelope Convertino, allegedly left a threatening voice message for Blackburn on May 30 at her Nashville office. The information comes from a press release issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Central District of Tennessee. Convertino was arrested on Thursday by the FBI.

In the message, Convertino reportedly stated, “My name is Mother Fucker and I’m going to kill Marsha Blackburn. I’m going to shoot her with a gun. I’m going to blow my head off on national television.”

U.S. Attorney Robert E. McGuire commented, saying that civil servants should conduct their duties without facing vulgar threats. He emphasized that such threats are unacceptable and that those making them will face consequences.

If found guilty, Convertino could receive a sentence of up to 10 years in federal prison along with a hefty fine of $250,000.

Blackburn responded to the situation by stating that threats against civil servants should be met with the utmost seriousness. She expressed gratitude to law enforcement and federal prosecutors for their swift actions in this case, reiterating her focus on serving the people of Tennessee.

Marsha Blackburn has been serving in the U.S. Senate since January 2019 and recently announced her candidacy for governor of Tennessee in early August.
