The situation surrounding Rep. Corey Mills (R-FLA) continues to unfold, particularly as he faces allegations of violence and threats linked to revenge porn. A court hearing regarding a restraining order is set for September 5th, but disagreements between Mills and the petitioner’s lawyer, Lindsey Langston, are complicating matters.
The injunction hearing aimed at addressing dating violence is scheduled for the morning of that date. However, it seems that Mills and Langston are at odds over essential details. Florida Circuit Judge Fred Coberlin has previously ruled that this hearing would take place in person at the Columbia County Court. Yet, Mills and his attorney, Aaron Delgado, have requested permission to attend remotely via Zoom. Court records reveal this request.
Delgado emphasized their need to be in Washington, D.C. that day due to voting obligations, pointing to serious health issues that might hinder their physical appearance at court. In contrast, Langston and her attorney, Bobi J. Frank, cast doubt on these reasons, suggesting that Mills could attend in person as there were no scheduled congressional sessions that day with the exception of a House Committee on Natural Resources meeting. Frank’s submission indicated a lack of evidence confirming Mills’ membership on that committee, which could mean he is free to appear in court without conflicting obligations.
Meanwhile, Langston claims that relying on technology to present evidence could complicate the case, introducing possible delays and interruptions. She also argued that being a U.S. House representative does not exempt Mills from attending court hearings personally, suggesting that different standards should not apply to him. Meanwhile, Delgado hasn’t responded to requests for comments.
The outcome of whether Mills and Delgado will be allowed to attend the hearing virtually remains uncertain.
Previously, Mills and Langston were in a romantic relationship for over three years. Claims have surfaced regarding Mills’ violent behavior towards another woman, who previously reported him to the police. To date, Mills is still legally married to Rana Al Saadi, despite his assertions of separation.
After their breakup, Mills reportedly threatened to release intimate photos and videos of Langston, each time aiming to harm her future relationships. Allegations suggest he also harassed her following her decision to report the accusations to the authorities and media.
