Sabrina Carpenter Responds to Criticism of Her Album Cover
Singer Sabrina Carpenter, 26, recently stirred up some controversy with the cover for her seventh studio album, “Man’s Best Friend.” Many have expressed discomfort, arguing it objectifies women and reinforces sexist stereotypes.
In her defense, Carpenter explained, “It was… it wasn’t just a conversation among me, my friends, my family, and those closest to me who typically see my music and art first.” She also mentioned her initial reaction to the backlash, saying, “I think we need to go out more and more.”
The album cover features Carpenter in a black dress and high heels, kneeling and interacting with a man, which some found inappropriate. During an interview, she elaborated that the artwork reflects feelings of control and lack thereof. “My fans know me and the people behind the music. They look at the pictures and understand what it is. Others might react differently, wondering, ‘Where are her parents?'” Carpenter noted that her own parents liked the photos.
“It was just perfect. For what an album is, it’s like what it represents.”

This isn’t the first time the artist has faced backlash for her evolving image. Fans have noted her more explicit dance moves during her “Short N’Sweet” tour, where she has taken creative liberties while performing songs like “Jun.” While some critics called her performances inappropriate for her younger audience, others believe she should be free to embrace a more adult persona after moving on from her Disney roots.
Carpenter reflected on her journey, saying, “When I started becoming more sexual as a person, I think that’s just part of life. I wanted to write about it,” adding that she hadn’t realized it was a taboo subject until she began expressing herself more openly. In response to the criticism, she later revealed an alternative album cover, humorously claiming it was “recognized by God.” This new cover features a more subdued photo of her in a gown with a whimsical caption about having a “God-approved” version available on her website.
Fans found humor in Carpenter’s lighthearted approach to the controversy. One commented that the phrase “God-approved” was perfect, joking that it allows everyone to relax a bit while they watch her dance moves unfold. It seems Carpenter’s blend of confidence and humor continues to resonate with her audience, despite the mixed reactions she garners.
