Man Arrested for DUI While Picking Up Friend from Jail
A man with a prior DWI conviction allegedly showed up to pick up a friend from the county jail, but, well, he was drunk himself. Anton Guliona, 25, arrived at the sheriff’s office in a state that raised quite a few eyebrows. Instead of successfully collecting his friend, he, uh, took a little detour and drove home, playing, I guess you could say, a risky game of musical DWI chairs.
Police had their doubts about his sobriety, and it didn’t take long for them to act. This all happened on May 16. To make matters worse, records indicated that his driver’s license had been revoked due to a previous incident involving driving while intoxicated.
Upon entering the restricted area of the Montgomery County Jail, Guliona seemed off to the authorities. Sheriff Jeffrey T. Smith noted that his arrival stirred suspicion among the deputies present. A deputy soon administered a field sobriety test, which, judging by the follow-up, he didn’t pass too well.
They discovered that his license was not valid, and on top of that, he was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher, which, you know, isn’t good news. Consequently, Guliona walked away with several new charges, including unlicensed driving and DUI. He was then processed and issued a ticket to be dealt with in Glen Town Court.
After his run-in with the law, he was released to someone else—though it’s unclear if that person managed to take his friend home. So, here’s a tip: if you’re trying to pick someone up after a DWI arrest, maybe don’t call someone who just got out of that situation themselves.
