US Approves $330 Million Military Aid Package to Ukraine
The United States has greenlighted a military sales package amounting to nearly $330 million for Ukraine. This package includes extending satellite communications services for StarLink terminals, along with equipment and maintenance services for the Patriot air defense system.
A statement from the State Department indicated that approximately $179.1 million of the funds would be allocated for maintaining the Patriot system.
“To execute this proposed sale, representatives from the 15 contracting firms and the US government will need to travel to the European Command for training sessions and ongoing meetings,” the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) mentioned.
Additionally, the State Department confirmed the sale of satellite communications services utilizing Starlink terminals in Ukraine.
The DSCA emphasized that these proposed sales align with US foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the security of allied nations and fostering stability and economic growth in Europe.
This announcement followed the previous day’s approval by the Trump administration for the sale of 3,350 extended-range attack ammunition (ERAM) missiles, along with an equal number of GPS units.
Earlier this month, Germany also confirmed plans to send two Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine as part of a new NATO arms agreement associated with the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, as Russia continues its assaults on Ukraine, there are pressures mounting for a ceasefire agreement, despite ongoing demands from US and European leaders. On Saturday night, Kremlin forces launched strikes in Zaporidia, southern Ukraine, resulting in one woman’s death and dozens more injured.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude towards Washington for the weapon sales, stating that the Patriot air defense system is “essential” for Ukraine. He noted, “They safeguard our citizens, our cities, and our critical infrastructure from relentless Russian air attacks,” in a post on social media platform X.
