Harrison Ford Reflects on Love and Relationships

Harrison Ford recently opened up about his views on love, aging, and marriage during a discussion on August 21. The 83-year-old actor shared insights that might resonate with many, emphasizing that love isn’t just for the young. “Old people can love too,” he said, suggesting that the perception that love is predominantly a young person’s experience is misguided.

During his conversation with Rachel Martin, Ford acknowledged that maintaining a successful marriage is no small feat. He humorously mentioned needing a “break for bad behavior,” hinting at the challenges that come with relationships.

Ford first met his wife, Calista Flockhart, at the Golden Globes in 2002 when he was 59. They married in New Mexico in June 2010, with Ford being 67 and Flockhart 45 at the time. When asked how long he sees his marriage lasting, Ford confidently replied, “If you ask me, I’ll say it for the rest of my life.” Reflecting on his earlier marriages, he noted he tied the knot for the first time at 23, laughing that it “should be illegal.”

He has experienced love multiple times, previously married to Mary Marquardt from 1964 to 1979 and to Melissa Mathison from 1983 until their divorce in 2004. Martin pointed out that Ford’s willingness to remarry shows a hopeful side of him that believes in love. Ford replied, “I love falling in love,” which adds a personal touch to his reflections.

Romantic love, he recalled, is a vibrant part of life, one that he believes can be experienced at any age. After marrying Flockhart, he adopted her son, Liam, and reflected on the joys of parenting. “It’s a great opportunity to be part of raising a child,” he expressed, mentioning that being involved brings endless rewards.

In addition to Liam, Ford has four other children: Benjamin, Willard, Malquit, and Malcolm. He conveyed a sense of satisfaction about family life, appreciating the chance to raise children and the joy it brings at various stages.

Ford and Flockhart have supported one another through various events and red carpet appearances. Ford openly acknowledges Flockhart’s unwavering support, stating he “needs a lot of support” in his endeavors. The couple hopes to collaborate on projects in the future, although he admitted opportunities haven’t arisen yet.

This year, Ford received his first Emmy nomination for his role in the comedy series “Shrinking,” where he plays a therapist. He described this job as possibly the best he’s had. “I can go home and sleep in my own bed,” he said, emphasizing the importance of being close to his family while working.

Ford prefers working locally rather than traveling far for film shoots. While he initially enjoyed the excitement of filming in various locations, he found that staying near home offers a different kind of fulfillment. “I like my family. I love home,” he shared, highlighting a genuine appreciation for a balanced life between work and family.
