Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, is still grappling with the loss of his sister. On Sunday, he marked the 28th anniversary of her passing by visiting her burial site in England, where he laid flowers.
The 61-year-old Spencer shared an Instagram photo that featured a bouquet of white and pink roses along with an image of the island at Althorpe Garden, the Spencer family’s estate in West Northamptonshire, where Diana rests.
In his post, he noted, “Flowers cut from Althorp’s Gardens for the island this morning,” and expressed that it’s “always impossible” to fully accept her absence.
Diana died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, at the age of 36. Her driver, Henri Paul, was under the influence of a mix of prescription drugs and alcohol while speeding to evade paparazzi, leading to the tragic collision that claimed Diana’s life and that of her partner, Dodi Al Fayed.
At the time of her death, Diana had recently divorced Prince Charles, and their sons, William and Harry, were just 15 and 12 years old, respectively.
During her funeral procession in London, the boys walked behind the hearse alongside their uncle and grandfather, Prince Philip, before she was laid to rest at the family estate.
Earlier this year, Spencer opened up about his sister’s death during a segment in honor of Mental Health Awareness Week. He described the experience as profoundly painful, stating, “It’s very mutilated…you grew up with these people, they’re your flesh and blood, and then they’re gone.” He admitted that he continues to grieve for Diana.
Recently, he has made headlines due to his divorce from Countess Karen Spencer and is now in a relationship with Professor Catrine Jarman, who is 18 years his junior.
In an interview, Spencer remarked, “We shared benefits,” highlighting their connection. He added, “We were fascinated by the same things, and she made me laugh. Laughter was the key.”
