Woody Allen Discusses Working with Trump

Filmmaker Woody Allen recently shared his thoughts on former President Donald Trump during an appearance on the “Club Random” podcast with Bill Maher. While Allen doesn’t support Trump politically, he mentioned that working with him on the set of the 1998 film *Celebrity* was quite a pleasure.

Allen, now 89, stated, “I’m not a trumper. I was one of the few who directed Trump in a film… ‘Celebrity.'” He reminisced fondly about Trump’s cameo and noted that the former president was not only polite but also hit all his marks and demonstrated real talent. “He had a charisma that worked well in show business,” said Allen.

In a lighthearted exchange, Maher made a joke about Allen’s past controversies which the director denied, responding, “I wish I could oversee him right now.” Maher has previously been critical of Trump but acknowledged that his experience, when they met at the White House, was surprisingly positive. “He is a different person when he’s not acting in a political capacity,” Maher commented.

While Allen expressed his disdain for many of Trump’s political views—admitting he voted for Kamala Harris—he still praised Trump’s skills as an actor. “I have serious issues with him, maybe 95% of the time,” Allen said, “but as an actor, he was very good.”

This conversation highlights an interesting contrast between the filmmaker’s personal convictions and his experiences on set. Trump’s acting cameos are well-known, including roles in films like *Home Alone 2* and *Zoolander*, showcasing a different side of his public persona.
