Bill Maher Praises Trump for Confronting Journalists
On a recent episode of “Club Random,” Bill Maher expressed his admiration for President Donald Trump, particularly applauding how he engages with journalists. It’s not something we see every day, right? Maher, who has had a complicated relationship with Trump over the years, noted that he was pleased to see Trump confront the media in a bold manner. He mentioned that, despite his criticism, there’s something about Trump’s directness that resonates with him.
“It’s amusing. You want to speak back to the media but often, I just hold back,” Maher said to actor Kevin Spacey. “But there are moments when I feel compelled to say something.” He pointed out that sometimes, you can almost sense Trump’s internal monologue during interviews, where Maher finds himself wishing to voice similar thoughts.
Maher recalled a specific instance: “When someone angered him during an interview, Trump just bluntly said, ‘You’re a terrible person!'” He reflected on how those blunt responses often mirror his own frustrations, citing examples like, “That’s not a sincere question,” or “You don’t believe that yourself.” It’s, well, quite relatable when you think about it.
“He might not be our president,” Maher added, highlighting his appreciation for Trump’s candor, especially when it comes to not sugarcoating things for the media. It’s an interesting take, really.
Recently, Maher received the Mark Twain Award at the Kennedy Center, which really underscores this blend of admiration and critique he has for Trump. During this event, Maher, alongside impressionist Matt Friend, joked about Trump’s worthiness of the award, even having Friend imitate him.
In a light-hearted turn, even someone who painted Trump interrupted to argue that he deserved the award more. It’s those moments that really capture the complicated dynamics present in today’s media landscape.
