University Cheerleader Arrested Following Baby’s Death
A 21-year-old cheerleader from the University of Kentucky has come under legal scrutiny after a shocking discovery in her residence. Laken Snelling was arrested on Sunday when authorities found an infant’s body concealed in a closet.
Police reports indicate that the baby was “wrapped in a towel in a black garbage bag.” This unsettling revelation came just months after Snelling shared her aspirations on social media, where, in her last TikTok post on June 25, she expressed a desire to be a mother, listing it as one of her life goals alongside marriage and homeownership.
Following the news of the baby’s death, social media erupted with comments, many expressing disbelief. One user questioned how someone could aim to become a mother and then, well… the tragic outcome felt contradictory.
In a police interview, Snelling reportedly claimed that she had “announced the birth.” The investigation is ongoing, with the Fayette County Coroner’s office set to determine the cause of the child’s death.
Since 2022, Kentucky has had strict abortion laws, with very limited exceptions. Many commenters pointed out that there are alternatives for mothers who are unable or unwilling to keep their babies, such as baby boxes and safe haven laws at hospitals or fire stations.
Snelling, also a recognized figure in local fairs, is facing multiple charges, including corpse abuse and tampering with evidence. She is currently in custody at the Fayette County Detention Center.
