Trump Declares Washington, DC, a “Crime-Free Zone”

Details are emerging about violence in Chicago over Labor Day weekend, which has sparked a feud between President Donald Trump and Governor J.B. Pritzker regarding the handling of the crime crisis. Chicago radio host Ray Stevens offered his perspective on the situation.

On Labor Day, federal agents working under Trump’s direction arrested 70 individuals in Washington, D.C. According to White House officials, many of those arrested had criminal histories, including offenses such as robbery, drunk driving, fraud, and more alarming actions like assault.

One individual arrested on that day was involved in an aggressive robbery of a 77-year-old woman. Another previously faced charges for assaulting a police officer and had been arrested again for domestic violence, which included suffocation, along with drug-related offenses.

According to officials, one suspect had a prior conviction involving a dangerous weapon and had served 45 months in prison.

In the context of combating crime, Senate aides who survived a brutal stabbing in D.C. described the fight against violence as “worthy.”

Over 3,200 officials from 22 different agencies participated in these arrests. This operation follows Trump’s March executive order that established the “Safe and Beautiful Task Force in DC.” Additionally, on August 7, he declared a public safety emergency in the capital, which allowed for more federal control of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Approximately 800 National Guard personnel were deployed alongside re-assigned federal agents from various agencies to patrol the city.

Since the Trump administration’s intervention, there have been a total of 1,669 arrests. Some of those taken into custody include 16 known gang members linked to the MS-13 and Tren de Aragua Gangs, officially labeled by the State Department as “foreign terrorist organizations.”

A recent federal operation also successfully rescued five missing children, and the MPD, in collaboration with city officials, has cleared about 50 homeless encampments from the area.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted, “DC is now a crime-free zone in just 12 days!!” He even acknowledged the involvement of D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, stating she had cooperated effectively with his administration to tackle crime.

Initially, Bowser had reservations about Trump’s crime crackdown, but during a recent press conference, she noted that the federal surge has positively impacted the city.

At a briefing, Bowser showcased a chart that highlighted the increased presence of various federal agencies, including the FBI and DEA, stating, “We are very grateful for the surge in executives to strengthen what MPD can do in this city.”

Bowser’s office has not commented on the situation to media outlets.
