Republicans Gain Significant Edge in Florida Voter Registration

Florida Republicans are making significant strides in voter registration, Florida Republican Chairman Evan Power revealed this week.

“Good morning! The @floridagop has a voter registration advantage of 1,333,502,” Power stated recently.

On Tuesday, the Florida GOP shared that they boast a statewide Republican voter lead of 1.353 billion. They highlighted a 37,000-vote edge, almost three points, in Miami-Dade and a 2.15-point advantage in Hillsborough County.

“There’s a surge in Florida Republican numbers. Grassroots leaders and volunteers are achieving remarkable results, as voters resonate with our vision for safer communities, stronger schools, and economic growth,” Power expressed in a statement.

He further noted, “Miami-Dade and Hillsborough have fallen. Democrats are even trying to defend positions in Duval and Palm Beach counties. The battle isn’t over, but it’s clear—Florida is solidly red, and we’re just strengthening our position.”

This trend began to really accelerate for Florida Republicans in November 2021, when they surpassed Democrats for the first time in the state’s history.

At that time, Governor Ron DeSantis mentioned that when he took office, there were still 280,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans in Florida.

“For the first time in Florida’s history, we have more registered Republicans than Democrats. This will soon be officially publicized,” he added.

As noted by sources, Republicans continued to widen their lead, surpassing Democrats in March 2022, after gaining over 100,000 registrations in just one month. This number nearly doubled by July, reaching around 350,000 additional voters by December 2022. By February 2023, this gap increased to over 400,000, eventually swelling to 680,030. As of October 31, 2023, the Republicans stand at 5,153,695 registered voters compared to 4,473,665 for Democrats.

Months before the presidential election, Florida GOP celebrated a milestone of one million voter registrations, emphasizing that the Republican leadership aims to consolidate Florida’s strong red status following its history as a swing state.

This substantial voter registration edge lined up with Florida’s pronounced red wave during the 2024 election, a shift that saw President Donald Trump securing votes in the state. Notably, Miami-Dade, historically a Democratic stronghold, turned red for the first time in 30 years.

Meanwhile, Representative Byron Donald (R-FL) is gearing up for a leadership shift as DeSantis moves on due to term limits, positioning himself as the next Republican governor.

“Governor DeSantis has achieved a lot for our state, and now it’s about building on that success,” he told sources earlier this summer.

“We need to address the future of our state’s transportation. It should make it easier for citizens to relocate. And insurance—yes, we have to focus on keeping costs low.”
