Teachers Arrested for Child Pornography Charges
A middle school teacher was recently caught taking photos of children in a theater bathroom, leading to serious criminal charges. The teacher, identified as Sean Jason Adams, 49, was apprehended by Colonial Heights police on July 22 while at a stately cinema located in South Park Mall. Investigators discovered child pornography on his phone.
Court documents indicated that Adams had been communicating with another individual, exchanging messages concerning the care and abuse of children. This prompted further investigation, which revealed explicit content related to minors on his device. In connection with these findings, police arrested Richard Franklin Troshak III, 33, from Chesterfield County.
Gray Collins, a lawyer for the Colonial Heights Federation, explained that tracing communications and images led authorities to expand their inquiry.
Adams now faces 25 counts related to the production of child pornography and five counts concerning indecency with children. Troshak, on the other hand, is charged with eight counts of producing child pornography and two counts of indecent liberties with children. Notably, both individuals were employed at Chesterfield County schools, with Adams teaching at Elizabeth Davis Middle School and Troshak at Chesterfield Academy of Early Childhood Learning.
Law enforcement confirmed that Troshak was arrested while at the Academy. Dr. John Murray, a superintendent in Chesterfield, announced the termination of both teachers shortly after the incidents were reported.
Interestingly, records show that both men previously worked at Tuckaway Daycare, and at least one of their communications referenced inappropriate conduct during their time there.
Emmanuel Chambliss, the Deputy Director of Police in Petersburg, mentioned that additional investigations were being conducted at Adams’ residence. He encouraged anyone who might recognize these teachers or suspect involvement in similar activities to reach out to the authorities.
As reported, Troshak had been honored as “Teacher of the Year” just months prior to his arrest. Following the incident, both the principal and the administration at the Academy of Learning were placed on administrative leave.
Collins addressed the sensitive nature of the investigation, noting that many victims and witnesses may be reluctant to come forward. “It’s essential to listen to them—even if they don’t wish to pursue charges—we need to ensure that other children are protected in the future,” he emphasized.
He added that a meeting had been held with parents to discuss the situation and to facilitate informed decisions going forward regarding potential charges.
