Patrick Willis Reacts to Micah Parsons’ Trade to Green Bay Packers

Pro Football Hall of Famer Patrick Willis was caught off guard, like many fans, when the Dallas Cowboys made the decision to trade Pro Bowl edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. It wasn’t a typical shock; rather, it stemmed from the team he was traded to.

“Honestly, that surprised me a bit. It’s not just the trade itself but the fact that it was to Green Bay,” Willis expressed, reflecting on the recent shifts in the league as the NFL gears up for the upcoming 2025 season.

Willis, a seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker known from his time with the San Francisco 49ers, found it puzzling that Jerry Jones would make such a move. He couldn’t shake off the concern regarding Parsons’ history of injuries, especially since he would now be playing in typically frigid temperatures.

“I just felt a chill thinking about it. You get hurt in a place like Green Bay—that’s not ideal,” Willis remarked. It’s clear he has Parsons’ best interests at heart, noting that the young athlete, who recently signed a four-year, $188 million contract, had no control over the trade.

Currently, Parsons is facing health challenges. Reports indicate he may need an epidural for the home opener against the Detroit Lions. As he battles through tightness in his back, he appears to be recovering from prior injuries that forced him to miss games last season.

Injuries, unfortunately, are all too common in the NFL. Players often find themselves fighting through pain during rigorous seasons. With Parsons having spent the last four seasons playing in the climate-controlled AT&T Stadium, moving to the outdoor environment of Lambeau Field presents a stark contrast.

Willis emphasizes that Parsons’ priority should be maintaining his health, rather than focusing on a matchup against his former team. “For him, it’s all about staying fit,” he said, adding that while there might be excitement around playing familiar rivals, the main goal should be ensuring he’s healthy.

As Parsons embarks on this new chapter with the Packers, Willis hopes for his success and is eager to see how he adapts to the NFC North.

Additionally, Willis recently partnered with Athletic on an initiative that engages fans through puzzles related to the NFL. He mentioned his enthusiasm about the project, recalling his passion for puzzles since childhood. “I’m really excited to be involved in this,” he said, highlighting the opportunity to test his football knowledge.
