Rubio promises to increase actions against drug-related terrorists following the attack on the Venezuela cartel

US Takes Strong Action Against Drug Cartel

Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed strong support for President Donald Trump’s recent military action against a drug cartel-operated vessel from Venezuela. On Wednesday, he emphasized that the United States will no longer passively tolerate “narcoterrorism.”

In response to inquiries regarding the Marine Corps strike, which targeted a vessel allegedly involved in smuggling Tren de Aragua drugs bound for the US, Rubio stated, “We’re not going to sit down anymore and watch these people cruise through the Caribbean.” This attack signifies a significant change in US strategies toward combating international gang networks, having resulted in the death of 11 affiliated individuals from a group labeled as a terrorist organization earlier this year.

Rubio highlighted that such narcoterrorist organizations represent a serious threat to US national security. He made it clear that these are not ordinary criminals; rather, they are well-organized entities engaged in extensive drug trafficking operations. “They pose an immediate threat to the United States. It’s critical,” he noted. He also criticized previous strategies of merely seizing and arresting cartel members, arguing that these tactics have proven ineffective.

“For these drug cartels, what they do is know they lose 2% of their cargo. They factor it into their economics,” he asserted. The key, he believes, lies in dismantling their operations entirely.

In addition, he pointed out that groups like Tren de Aragua are now employing unconventional weaponry, such as drones, making them an escalating threat to international security. “It’s concerning that drone technology is now being used by these groups to intimidate security forces in neighboring nations like Colombia,” he added.

Rubio confirmed that this military approach is part of a broader effort by the US to combat both drug and arms trafficking. “This is just the beginning,” he said. “We might see more actions soon, as the president is committed to taking the fight to narcoterrorist organizations.”
