New Family Restaurant Opening in Brooklyn

Igor Hadzismajlovic, a co-founder of a trendy Manhattan cocktail lounge, is starting a new venture in Brooklyn with his wife, Helen Zhang, and colleague Edo Ademovic.

Set to launch next month, Ziggy’s Roman Café will be located at 15 Main Street in Dumbo, as revealed by Chan in Side Dish.

“We didn’t want it to be just another overpriced restaurant because, honestly, families in Dumbo had limited options. It’s a busy tourist area, but it wasn’t really a dining destination,” Zhang explained.

The café, named after their youngest child, has seating for around 65. There’s even a mezzanine designed for kids to play while their parents enjoy their meals.

They have two kids, Rio, who’s 7, and 5-year-old Ziggy.

The menu, crafted by chef John Poiakov, features Italian Roman-style dishes, such as fried gnocchi and artichoke alla Romana.

Federico Crosiani, known for his expertise in thin, Roman-style pizza, is advising on the restaurant’s pizza offerings.

Ademovic, who previously served as the bar manager at Sunset Beach on Shelter Island, will take on the role of general manager at Ziggy’s.

The cocktail menu, developed by co-founder Jason Kosmas, will include classics like the Westside—a refreshing mix with lemon juice and mint—and original creations like the Besbia margarita, which puts an Italian twist on a traditional favorite.

There’s a focus on creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere, making Ziggy’s a promising new spot for families and locals alike.

Meanwhile, in the same vein, the beloved Miriam restaurant, a staple in Park Slope, is expanding with new locations. The original opened 20 years ago and has now branched out to the Upper West Side.

Miriam West Village and Miriam Upper East Side offer Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inspired dishes from chef Rafael “Rafi” Hasid, named in honor of his mother.

The dinner menu includes shareable plates like tableside Ramshawar Matera Cotta and Chicken Schnitzel, alongside brunch favorites like Turkish eggs and various flaky pastries.

For dessert, you can find unique offerings like kadaifu cannoli paired with blueberry coulis and a burnt cheesecake featuring whipped bean paste, complemented by dates and vanilla ice cream.

This new restaurant is part of Hasid’s 6R Hospitality Group, which also runs New Orleans-inspired venues like 1803 NYC and Bon Courage Speakeasy.
