California Launches Health Alliance with Oregon and Washington

California Governor Gavin Newsom has initiated a new “health alliance” with Oregon and Washington, aiming to uphold what he describes as the scientific integrity of public health. This move comes as a response to changes within the Trump administration at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Newsom’s announcement highlights the formation of the “West Coast Health Alliance,” which seeks to maintain credibility regarding vaccines amidst what he perceives as the CDC’s diminishing trustworthiness. The alliance emerged following actions by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, who moved to dismiss certain officials and challenged reforms related to vaccine and drug regulatory approvals. Many individuals have reacted positively to Kennedy’s reforms, especially following aggressive vaccine mandates and lockdown measures during the pandemic.

According to Newsom, this new collaboration is about protecting “science,” echoing his earlier claims regarding the Western State Alliance’s efforts to shield residents from concerns surrounding coronavirus vaccines.

Back in October 2020, Newsom and fellow Democrats voiced skepticism about the vaccine developed under the Trump administration. They, alongside others in the “Western State Workgroups,” which included Oregon and Nevada at the time, aimed to ensure vaccine safety through verification processes before public availability.

However, after President Biden took office, Newsom shifted his stance, instituting a vaccine mandate in California.

In addition to this alliance, Governor Newsom has made California a “sanctuary state” for transgender medical procedures for minors. Despite a lack of overwhelming scientific evidence to support such practices, he has advocated for young individuals experiencing gender discomfort, while raising concerns about the long-term impacts of these treatments.
