Lightfoot Responds to Trump on Chicago Crime Rate

Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has recently pushed back against claims made by President Donald Trump regarding the crime rate in her city. She argues that the president has his own version of the statistics related to crime in Chicago.

During a discussion, Lightfoot pointed out that crime rates, including murders and shootings, have actually declined over the past four years, contrary to what Trump suggests. “The crime rate has fallen,” she noted, adding that the president seems to be fabricating his own facts.

Lightfoot criticized Trump’s focus on Chicago, stating that there are cities with high rates of gun violence that he fails to address. She emphasized that the narrative he’s promoting doesn’t reflect the actual situation in Chicago.

On a separate occasion, Trump claimed it was only a matter of time before he deployed National Guard troops to the city, referencing issues like aggravated assault and robbery. “We’re going in. I didn’t say when,” he stated, asserting that it’s about obligation rather than politics.

Recent reports from local authorities revealed at least 54 shootings over Labor Day weekend, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals. Among the deceased were two women and three men, although their identities have not yet been disclosed.

In his comments, Trump remarked, “Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the world. Pretzker is in need of help so badly.” The situation seems to intensify as community members and leaders are dealing with ongoing violence.
