Angel Reese Addresses Controversial Comments

Angel Reese has expressed regret to her teammates regarding some remarks she made during an interview with a Chicago outlet.

In her comments, she hinted that if the team, the Sky, does not make substantial improvements during the offseason, they could take a different approach moving forward. It seemed like she was critiquing several teammates as well.

Reese somewhat backtracked after the team’s 88-64 win, where she contributed 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. “I don’t think I’m annoyed. I’m actually more frustrated with myself now,” she said when asked about the article. “I believe my words were taken out of context. They’ve dealt with my ups and downs all season, so I definitely didn’t mean to put my teammates in a bad light.”

Earlier, she had mentioned to the Tribune that she wasn’t confident that teammates Rachel Bunham and Haley Van Liss could lead them through a playoff push, raising concerns about relying on Courtney Vanderroot after her ACL injury early in the season.

Reese added that only she and Camila Cardoso could be counted on for the 2026 Sky roster.

Her teammates were aware of her comments in the article and weren’t too pleased. “I apologize to my teammates for the article and for how my words might have been misinterpreted,” Reese stated. “I recognize it’s not just the message, but how it’s communicated, so I need to improve my wording.”

“I need to develop and grow from this point,” she concluded.

Sky coach Tyler Marsh mentioned he had a conversation with Reese before Wednesday’s game but didn’t disclose the details. He confirmed that the players are addressing the situation together.

“I believe everyone had a chance to voice their thoughts. We’ll just move on from here,” Marsh remarked.
