Serena Williams is set to make her return to Wimbledon this afternoon.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion announced her return to professional tennis on June 1. Since then, she has participated in two doubles tournaments: one at Queen’s Club with Victoria Mboko and the other at the Berlin Open alongside Karolina Muchova.
At 44, she will be playing singles for the first time in four years, entering Wimbledon as a wildcard. Williams has had an impressive history at the tournament, winning seven titles between 2002 and 2016.
Her first opponent will be Maya Joint, a 20-year-old Australian who is making her second Wimbledon appearance this year.
Later this week, Williams will also team up with her sister Venus, who has claimed 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, to compete in the doubles event as wildcard entries, with their match scheduled for July 2nd.
The victor of today’s match will move on to face either Alexandra Ira or Renata Sarazua in the second round on July 2nd.
What time is Serena Williams’ first match at Wimbledon?
Serena Williams’ matchup against Maya Joint is expected to start around 12:00 PM ET.
This will be the third and final match of the day on Center Court, following the previous matches featuring Towncent vs. Swiatek and Brox vs. Zverev.
