Emma Heming Willis Discusses Life with Bruce Willis at Home
Emma Heming Willis recently opened up about her life since Bruce Willis moved into her home. In an interview, she shared that the choice to relocate him was “the most difficult” decision they’ve had to make, especially following his diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). As she put it, a calm atmosphere was necessary.
Emma explained, “We have two young children, and it was essential to have a space that could cater to everyone’s needs.” She emphasized that their kids can resume playdates and sleepovers without feeling out of place.
This past August, she first revealed her decision to bring Bruce into her home during an ABC special titled “Emma & Bruce Willis: An Unexpected Journey.”
Warning Signs Before Diagnosis
Emma noted there were “surprising” signs leading up to Bruce’s diagnosis. After the interview broadcasted, she addressed some backlash on social media, providing a video explanation. She remarked that even if someone is familiar with dementia, they might not fully understand the unique dynamics of a specific family setting.
At 47, she reiterated that “dementia presents itself differently in each home,” underscoring the importance of making decisions based on what works best for family dynamics. “It’s heartbreaking, but it’s what supports the family as a whole,” she added.
Though Bruce lives elsewhere now, Emma assured that his bond with their two daughters remains strong.
Care and Family Visits
The new residence, where Bruce receives round-the-clock care from a professional, is not far from their main family home. Emma previously told Diane Sawyer that she visits him every morning and night, calling it his “second home.”
Reflecting on their situation, she said, “I went back to being Bruce’s wife, and the kids can live their lives. There’s a certain beauty in that, and I’m grateful.” Emma believes that this arrangement allows them to cherish their time together more effectively.
She also mentioned that she understands Bruce wants their daughters to feel at home, adjusted to their needs.
Emma and Bruce were married in March 2009 and share two daughters, Mabel (13) and Evelyn (11).
Support from Ex-Wife Demi Moore
Recently, Bruce’s ex-wife, Demi Moore, praised Emma on the “Oplar Podcast” for her dedication in caring for Bruce. Demi acknowledged that managing such a situation doesn’t come with a guidebook, and emphasized Emma’s self-awareness and need for self-care that she discusses in her book.
