Woman Attacked by Career Criminal in Chicago Shares Her Story

Chicago Assault and Political Reactions

A man with a lengthy criminal record faces accusations of assaulting a woman in downtown Chicago on August 19. This incident comes amid President Trump’s intentions to address rising crime rates in cities led by Democrats.

The victim, Kathleen Miles, was on her way to Union Station with colleagues when the suspect allegedly separated them and punched her in the face, according to ABC 7’s report on Wednesday.

Miles sustained multiple facial fractures and concussions, and unfortunately, she can’t recall the details of the attack, having lost consciousness temporarily. While recovering, she reflected on her injuries and shared her ordeal through social media.

Authorities have identified 32-year-old William Livingston as the suspect. An ABC report revealed that Livingston has a checkered past, featuring at least 13 arrests since 2012 for violent offenses, including assaults on both women and police.

Miles, a 56-year-old mother of eleven, expressed concern over the ability of leaders to effectively curb such violence in the future. She wondered aloud, “What does someone have to do for enough to be enough?”

Reports from NBC Chicago noted that Livingston faced three aggravated battery charges in 2022. Interviews from that time indicated that he had attacked several women over a brief period.

Livingston had received a five-year prison sentence but was released the following year under a combination of pre-trial and parole conditions.

When Miles was attacked, State Senator Willie Preston witnessed the incident and rushed to her aid. In a social media post, he recounted how he used his shirt to stem her bleeding.

However, Preston refrained from bringing up Trump’s proposed public safety initiatives, despite rising crime troubling the city. He noted, “I didn’t warn the media at the time because I don’t believe in using others’ tragedies for political leverage.”

Amidst all, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have pushed back against Trump’s plans to deploy federal agents. This opposition continues despite a surge in violence over the recent Labor Day weekend.

Pritzker insisted there was no current emergency to necessitate federal intervention in Chicago.

Local residents shared mixed feelings about the situation. One man expressed that if federal help becomes politicized yet enhances public safety, he would support it regardless of the motives behind it.

In light of several tragic incidents over Labor Day, Trump has committed to “solving” the crime problems in Chicago. There are hints that crime rates in Washington, D.C. decreased after he took control of the city’s police department.
