First Lady Melania Trump Emphasizes Responsible AI Growth

First Lady Melania Trump highlighted the need for careful management of artificial intelligence (AI) development, calling on tech leaders to rally behind the Presidential AI Challenge during a meeting on Thursday.

The meeting took place at the White House and included various officials, such as Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Education Secretary Linda McMahon, alongside notable figures like Google CEO Sundar Pichai and IBM CEO Arvind Krishna.

Melania Trump expressed her belief that AI could be a significant factor in the country’s growth during the Trump administration, possibly becoming “the biggest advancement engine in the history of the United States.”

“As leaders and parents, we must be responsible in guiding the growth of AI. At this early stage, we should nurture it like we do our own children,” she remarked.

She encouraged attendees, saying this gathering represented the “brightest minds of our time” and stressed that America should prioritize three key areas in the AI landscape: infrastructure, national security, and talent development.

The First Lady urged industry leaders to support the President’s AI Challenge, a national initiative designed to inspire educators and young Americans to become innovators in the field of AI.

“We need to ensure that American talent is equipped to embrace AI advancements. This challenge represents a crucial step in engaging parents, educators, and students in this endeavor,” she noted.

She added that “English is essentially a new programming language for many,” which can unleash creativity across the nation, leading to new industries and job opportunities. Supporting the AI Challenge means investing in the future of America’s youth, she suggested.

The discussion on AI education came just before President Trump was scheduled to have dinner with tech leaders later that evening in the newly renovated Rose Garden.
