Trump Pays Tribute to Gold Star and Angel Moms in Rose Garden Before Mother's Day

Trump Honors Gold Star and Angel Moms

WASHINGTON—On Friday, President Donald Trump addressed a group of Gold Star Moms—women who have lost children in military service—and Angel Moms, those who lost children due to incidents involving illegal immigrants. This gathering took place in the Rose Garden, just two days ahead of Mother’s Day.

“For millions of American families, Sunday will be filled with love, gratitude and joy,” he remarked, recalling fond memories of his own mother.

He expressed deep respect for the mothers present, stating, “I am honored to stand with such strong and truly heroic mothers who have faced unimaginable loss.” Trump noted that the tragedies faced by the Angel Moms were largely a result of what he termed “the radical left’s open borders policies.”

These mothers are becoming advocates, hoping to prevent other families from enduring similar heartache.

“Some of you have known us for years, while others are unfortunately new to this club. It’s sad—this shouldn’t have happened,” he said, emphasizing the need for change.

The president praised their efforts, saying, “In their honor, we rapidly transformed the worst and most dangerous border in our nation’s history into the strongest border in American history.”

He referred to Gold Star mothers as “the most extraordinary mothers our country has ever produced,” highlighting the sacrifice of their children who gave their lives for the nation.

Trump mentioned Janice Chance specifically, whose son, Jesse Melton III, was killed in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom on September 9, 2008. “He volunteered to take the place of a fellow soldier. That day, Jesse gave his life for our country,” Trump stated.

He thanked Janice, saying, “America is a strong and free country today because of people like your great son. Thank you for being here.”
