Belichick’s Tension with Patriots Continues
Bill Belichick seems to still be holding onto some resentment regarding his departure from the New England Patriots. The 73-year-old head coach is currently at the University of North Carolina, where reports indicate that Patriots scouts have been barred from accessing the UNC football program.
This information was first brought to light by “3&out,” with additional coverage from ESPN citing sources on the matter.
UNC has yet to respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital. ESPN reports that general managers Michael Lombardi and Proliaison Franzi Jorden informed teams of the ban last month.
Belichick led the Patriots for 24 seasons, achieving six Super Bowl wins. However, his final three years were disappointing, as the team missed the playoffs after Tom Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft has acknowledged that it was his decision to part ways with Belichick. Despite their split, Kraft expressed his intention to create statues for both Belichick and Brady, recognizing their contributions to the team’s 20-year success.
“It was always my intention to commission statues for both Tommy and Bill when that great 20-year era ended,” Kraft told CBS News. This year saw Belichick and the Patriots end their relationship, marking three consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance. Jerod Mayo took over briefly but was dismissed after one year.
As for Belichick’s venture into college football, his debut with the Tar Heels was rough. They suffered a significant loss to TCU, with a final score of 48-14—the highest number of points he has ever allowed as a coach.
