Emotional Conversation Reveals Pain of Loss in Capitol Hill Shooting
During an emotional segment on “The Story,” Jeanine Pirro spoke with the parents of 21-year-old Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, who was tragically killed on Capitol Hill in June. Robert, Eric’s father, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Judge Pirro, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, and when I see you, I’d like to give you a big hug.”
Pirro reassured them that her fight for justice on behalf of their son is ongoing. “My heart is with you,” she stated. “The fight isn’t over. There are prosecutions ahead, and we will attain justice for you.” She further highlighted that the loss of Eric and others like him showcases a deeper issue with crime in the city.
“These are innocent families torn apart due to these loose laws that allow kids easy access to guns in D.C.,” she remarked.
Authorities have arrested two 17-year-old suspects in connection with Eric’s death. Both have a history of violence, and there’s an ongoing search for a third individual involved.
Challenging Circumstances Surrounding Arrests
Pirro assured the parents that they would find the third suspect, stating, “We’re on the case, and he won’t get away. We’ll apprehend him, no question about it.” She confirmed that the teens would face first-degree murder charges despite their age.
Eric’s mother, Tamara, shared her shock upon learning the details of her son’s passing. “It was a shock. I heard about Eric and what happened for the first time during a press conference,” she revealed, her eyes filled with tears.
While Eric was shot four times, the investigation uncovered 79 shell casings scattered around the scene, emphasizing the tragic nature of the incident.
Tamara expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the law enforcement officials and advocates who supported them, particularly mentioning Pirro and the hope that others who have suffered similar losses would receive justice. “It’s not enjoyable to be part of this tragedy,” she said, referring to families affected by violent crime. “My heart goes out to every family member who has lost a child to senseless violence.”
Call for Greater Safety Measures
In her heartfelt plea, Tamara urged that safety should surpass political divides and that measures to prevent crime must be prioritized. “Let’s make every city in America safer,” she emphasized. “What does it mean to live in the greatest country if we can’t keep our families safe?”
“And this isn’t a political matter,” she asserted. “It’s a question of safety for everyone, no matter where you are in the country.”
In a poignant moment, Eric’s parents reflected on personal signs they felt connected them to their son during this difficult time. Tamara recalled, “Judge Pirro, you wore an orange dress yesterday, and I showed it to Bob. We felt something good would happen.” Robert noted that orange was Eric’s favorite color. The following day, they learned a suspect had been apprehended.
“Eric is watching over us,” Tamara added. “That was a sign.”
