Christian McCaffrey’s Injury Update for Week 1
This Week 1, Christian McCaffrey’s condition had some fans on edge.
The San Francisco 49ers star missed practice on Friday because of a calf injury, as noted by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
After practice, McCaffrey reassured reporters, calling the injury “nothing serious” and expressing his intention to play on Sunday. “I feel good about where I am,” he said. “Unfortunately, with my injury history, if I miss practice, things can get blown out of proportion.”
As of now, he’s listed as questionable for the upcoming game against the Seahawks in Seattle.
This comes just a day after his sudden appearance in the 49ers’ injury report.
Before this, McCaffrey participated fully in practice on Wednesday but was limited on Thursday.
It’s been a tough season for him, having played only four games last year due to Achilles injuries.
However, McCaffrey has shown great promise this season, with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan commenting that he looked as strong as ever during August’s training camp. “Yeah, I think he was hit like 25 mph or something like that yesterday,” Shanahan said, referring to McCaffrey’s performance, and added, “He’s as fast and strong as he was. He’s Christian McCaffrey.”
Shanahan appeared confident, suggesting that McCaffrey is healthy and ready to kick off the season.
“I figured if Christian said he was healthy, he would be back,” Shanahan mentioned regarding McCaffrey’s return. “He’s always aiming to put any pain or arthritis behind him. We saw him early in the offseason and he looks like the guy we’ve always known.”
If McCaffrey can’t play, the 49ers might turn to Brian Robinson Jr., who was acquired from the commanders in August.
